Despite the challenging economy and financial marketplace, Mercantil Commercebank continues to be the third largest bank headquartered in Miami-Dade County and the fifth largest bank headquartered in Florida. The Bank’s assets reached $5.6 billion during the 2009 second quarter. The Bank’s liquidity and capital base remain strong and solid. In fact, our Tier 1 Leverage Ratio, a regulatory standard that measures capital adequacy, increased to 10.49%, more than double the threshold to be considered a “well capitalized bank.” The Bank’s investment and trust subsidiaries continue to perform very well, growing assets under management and net profits.
What does this mean for our customers? It means that the Bank has the financial strength and capital to weather these challenging times. We remain liquid, stable and strong financial institution, where deposits are safe and secure, and where individuals and businesses can continue to turn for their lending and other financial needs.

Mercantil Commercebank was a proud supporter of Habitat for Humanity’s Blitz Build 2009 event in Jordan Commons, one of the largest Habitat communities in Miami-Dade County. Bank employees were among more than 200 volunteers each day who built 10 homes over a two-week period, speeding up completion of the 187-home development. This year’s support marked the continuation of the Bank’s 13-year partnership with Habitat for Humanity, which has included direct home sponsorships and more than $800,000 in zero-interest rate mortgage loans to Habitat’s low income families. |

Once again this year, Bank employees joined other volunteers to answer phones and collect donations to help cancer patients throughout Miami-Dade County. The League Against Cancer / Liga Contra el Cancer, a community-based, not-for-profit organization, provides free medical care to needy cancer patients. More than 350 Florida physicians, who are board-certified in their specialties, volunteer their services to the organization, often the last resort for cancer victims who have no financial resources or health insurance. Since foundation in 1975, more than 50,000 low-income, uninsured men, women and children have received needed support for their cancer condition. |

Mercantil Commercebank uses advanced technology to protect your financial identity, but the Bank can’t do it all alone. You can take steps to prevent fraud, too, including:
- Monitor Account Activity Online by viewing accounts frequently and looking for irregular charges. Contact the Bank immediately if you detect any suspicious activity.
- Create Low Risk Passwords and Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) by avoiding the use of your date of birth, social security number, telephone number, nickname and other easily recognized personal data. It’s a good idea to change passwords periodically.
- Store Your Personal Information at Home and at Work in a protected environment, such as a safe deposit box or locked drawer. This includes your bank account(s) number(s), mortgage information, credit card statements, social security cards, and other confidential data.
- Shred Documents that Disclose Personal Information because identity thieves are experts at obtaining discarded documents.
- Avoid Providing Personal Information Over the Telephone and remember that Mercantil Commercebank will never ask customers for this information, unless you initiate the call and it is needed as part of the process to handle your requests.
