ACCOUNT OPENING
The following documents are required to open a Personal International Bank Account at
Mercantil Commercebank:

  1. Application to open a Personal International Bank Account, duly completed with all information requested for each account holder.

  2. Original Signature Card, duly signed where indicated by each account holder.

  3. Original W-8BEN Form, duly signed where indicated.

  4. Customer Questionnaire completed by each new account holder.

  5. Photocopy of Identity Card or Passport (legible and currently effective) for each
    account holder.

  6. Reference letter(s) - per account holder are required. Select one of the following options:
    • One (1) reference letter per account holder from Mercantil Banco Universal
    • Two (2) reference letters - per account holder from other banks
    • One (1) reference letter - per account holder from another bank, and a personal financial statement - per account holder, prepared by a public accountant

  7. An initial deposit is required to open the account. Please refer to our Personal Banking International Fees for further information. This amount may be remitted to the Bank via any of the following:
    • A check duly endorsed to the account holder, which must be remitted with the documents required to open the account
    • A Mercantil Commercebank account debit authorization letter
    • Funds transferred from another financial institution upon receiving the account
      opening notification

To add account holders
The following documents are required to add account holders to an existing Personal International Bank Account at Mercantil Commercebank:

  1. Application to open a Personal International Bank Account, duly completed with all information requested for each account holder.

  2. Original Signature Card, duly signed where indicated by each new account holder.

  3. Original W-8BEN Form, per new account holder, duly signed where indicated.

  4. Customer Questionnaire for each new account holder.

  5. Photocopy of Identity Card or Passport (legible and currently effective) for each additional account holder.

  6. Reference letter(s) - per account holder are required. Select one of the following options:
    • One (1) reference letter per account holder from Mercantil Banco Universal
    • Two (2) reference letters - per account holder from other banks
    • One (1) reference letter - per account holder from another bank, and a personal financial statement - per account holder, prepared by a public accountant for each account holder

  7. A letter signed by account holders, authorizing the addition of a new account holder.
